Dreambase

A private dream journal and creative workspace for exploring symbols, comparing dreams, tracing recurring images, and experimenting with the language of your own archive.

About

Dreambase is an online workspace for recording dreams, exploring their imagery, and returning to connections over time. Type or dictate an account, scene, or fragment, save the original words, then choose whether to generate a reading. Notes, context, and saved interpretations stay alongside the source text.

The project began as part of a net art practice. Its original version, shown at Museo Tamayo, grew from about 6,000 dreams shared with Dream7 over several years. Built in Flash, it brought those narratives into a searchable multimedia environment of floating, clickable texts, collage, animation, and sound. Searching for a word or symbol offered a way to move through the collection and encounter connections.

The current Dreambase extends that exploration through a personal archive and AI tools. Symbolic readings examine imagery and possible associations. Relational readings consider people, interactions, movement, tension, and perspective. Echoes explores connections with earlier journal entries and links back to the source dreams. Interpretations are provisional, not diagnoses, predictions, or proven explanations.

A conversational Dream guide offers another route into interpretation. Ask about an image, question an association, or add remembered context. The guide works only with what you choose to enter into the conversation and does not independently read or edit your journal.

The Symbol library offers possible associations, variations in context, reflection questions, and related images. Selected entries include sourced cultural or artistic perspectives without assigning universal meanings. Dream comparisons, selected groups of entries, search, tags, and notes help you investigate recurring details while keeping the original accounts accessible.

Creative tools preserve the earlier project's interest in collage and experimental text. Drift, Shard, and Echo rearrange a dream's own words into compositions that can reveal a phrase or an unexpected combination. These experiments sit alongside the original account rather than replacing it.

Dreambase's gray console, monospaced text, pixel headings, square controls, and bright accents carry its browser art history into the present. Dreams begin private. You can choose to share an entry with the Collective while notes, recordings, and readings remain outside that shared view. You can also export your writing. Dreambase is available online at dreambase.art.
